Grab your Hebrew National, It’s National Hot Dog Day!

National Hot Dog Day may not be recognized as an actual national holiday, but that doesn’t mean Jewish Clevelanders can’t celebrate.

Happy Dog, at 5801 Detroit Ave. in Cleveland, has just made the Top 30 of Foursquare’s list of the country’s most popular dog joints, coming in at 16.

The bar-restaurant does not have a kosher option but owner Sean Kilbane said it offers one of the best vegan dogs in town.

So if you’re in a festive mood, celebrate National Hot Dog day by throwing some Hebrew Nationals on the grill or go check in on Foursquare at Happy Dog in the Gordon Square District.

“It’s jumpin’,” Kilbane said of his popular dog spot.

Each year Americans buy more than 700 million packages of hot dogs at retail stores and more than 20 million hot dogs at baseball stadiums, according to a 2012 report from the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council.

Six million Americans prefer kosher hot dogs to any other hot dogs, according to a 2009 article from FailedMessiah.com.
