Virgin Eyes Opened to CLE Nightlife

As a newly turned 21-year-old, I have been weaving my way through bars, trying all varieties of alcohol and testing the atmosphere of Akron’s trendy nightlife spots.

With Sonya

Friday night was no exception–except it was my first night out in Cleveland.

Fellow JStyle writer, Andria, invited me up to the CLE for a night of bar hopping on West 6th with our new Jewish friends, Sonya and Mike, from Wednesday’s JCLE event.

Before Friday night, I had no clue what the difference between West 6th and East 4th even was. Also, Clevelanders say them sans street names, and everyone knows what you’re talking about.

Now, I know that West 6th is the Warehouse District and is a bit of a walk from East 4th. My geography problems have been solved!

We started the night at Flannery’s, an Irish pub close to East 4th. It seemed like a chill place, but we didn’t stay long. I suggested we walk to West 6th from East 4th and was told that us wedge-wearing girls would be crazy to put our feet through such misery.

We  found parking off East 6th for $5 and made our way to The Velvet Dog, which reminded me of the pub turned discotheque clubs I had been to in Madrid.

The Velvet Dog did not disappoint. The rooftop bar exudes summer fun and offers a nice view of the Cleveland skyline. Andria persuaded me to try her drink of choice, vodka and water with lime.

Next, we went to The Barley House, which surprised me as the DJ spun Pitbull’s hottest tracks. I was expecting a sit-down Irish bar with crowds of people clanking their beer mugs together over some friendly conversation.

We finished there and drove to Coventry for a relaxing end to our night at Panini’s. Try their hot pretzels–amazing!

So, what did I learn from my first night out in CLE?

It’s so much better than Akron!
