Mac Miller from Jesus to Kugel

Tattoo-covered Jewish rapper Mac Miller, 21, shouts out to the tribe in his song “Don’t Mind if I Do” off his fourth mix tape, “K.I.D.S.,” released in August 2010.

“I been a bad little Jew,” Miller raps.

To some in the Jewish community, Miller may just be that, “a bad little Jew,” for several reasons:

One, the kid has tattoos everywhere. He even has Chai tattooed on his upper left arm.  In an interview with Inked.com November 2012,  Miller said he wanted “to do a full body suit” meaning he wants ink everywhere!

Secondly, on his latest album, “Watching Movies” with the Sound Off released by Rostrum Records,  Miller raps,  “weed to grind on top a Jesus shrine”  on the track “The Star Room.”

Despite his racy lyrics and appearance, Miller always references his Jewish identity or at least uses it to create some of his hit singles.

From Miller’s “Blue Slide Park” album released in 2011, his song “Under the Weather”  stated, “I always do it big like a Jewish nose.”

Although some may take offense,  at least the MOTs are getting mentioned.

In an interview with Shalom Life’s Jian Magen, Miller says “that’s like my culture, that’s like my family, that’s like how I was raised…Jew.”

The rapper also looks forward to the High Holy Days because of one thing, his grandmother’s noodle kugel.  In the interview Miller says, “That shit is f*&$in’ good.”

So, if your a fan of Mac Miller, I would suggest heading to his concert at The House of Blues July 24. Unfortunately–or fortunately for Mac–it is sold out.

Maybe there is something about a tattoo’d Jewish kid who eats kugel with cream cheese that attracts an audience? You tell me.
