What’s My Style? Sara Stashower

My style: Mix and match. I never buy a complete outfit. Invariably, I’ll buy pieces and parts and pull things together. Or, at least, I try. I’m always in black, plus something. Black pants and a great jacket. Black capris and a bright linen top. Black dress and a beautiful sweater or throw. Add a smidge of jewelry – like one of my Sara-crafted, mixed-up-pearl ropes – and I’m me.

Favorite season:  Fall for sure. Love the layers and the kick in the air. Come fall, I always think about the back-to-school clothes my mom and grandmother would buy for me. I’d wear that wool skirt on the first day of class even if it was 90 degrees outside. One must suffer to be beautiful, I guess!

Must-haves: Comfortable but cool shoes – I love Pliner, Taryn Rose. Also, black dresses in all lengths, styles, and fabrics. Ditto for black pants.

Latest purchase:Just stopped in at Eileen Fisher in Northhampton, Massachusetts. I love to find her stuff on sale and build staples that way. Got a great neutral sweater for fall and a stretch jersey skirt. There’s also a Cynthia Ashby taffeta trench coat I’m digging.

Fashion lesson: While I’m extremely observant of friends, family and fashion pubs, when it comes right down to it, I try and pay closest attention to what works best for my aging body and need for comfort. In my perfect world, there’d be no Spanx.

Shopping in CLE:I troll the upstairs at Fine Points on Larchmere regularly for something new and different: beautiful pieces by Babette, Art of Cloth, a standout jacket by An Ren, and in the summer, Hand Jive. I live in it.
