E!‘s late-night funny girl, Chelsea Handler (host of Chelsea Lately), was shocked by confirmation of her grandfather’s affiliation with Hitler and the Nazi Party on TLC’s “Who Do You Think You Are”. Handler, raised Jewish by her German mother and Jewish-American father, discovers the mystery behind her grandfather’s Nazi past.
Handler appeared on the TLC show Aug. 6 and showed a side many of her fans and audience have never seen. Upon arriving in Germany, Handler had German researcher Andrea Bentschneider translate her grandmother’s puzzling memoirs. Handler had tears running down her face, as she said,
I remember my grandmother totally telling us how there was no food.”
Handler takes a deep breath as she attempts to read over the memoir, which proves her family’s Nazi affiliation.
Handler talks about the journey she took to discover more about her grandfather’s association with the Nazis.
I think that me being Jewish, it’s going to be pretty mind-blowing going to a place…where Jews were persecuted.”
