DESCRIPTION:To focus on the Society’s outstanding Costume & Textile Collection and its current Chisholm Halle Costume Wing exhibit\, Dior & More – For the Love of Fashion\, WRHS is pleased to host two special fashion-related events – one on Friday\, October 4 and the other on Saturday\, October 5\, 2013. The featured speaker for these two days is Valerie Steele (Ph.D.\, Yale University)\, Director & Chief Curator of The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology (MFIT) in New York City. \nDr. Steele has curated more than 20 exhibitions in the past ten years\, including Gothic: Dark Glamour; Love & War: The Weaponized Woman; The Corset: Fashioning the Body; London Fashion; and Femme Fatale: Fashion in Fin-de-Siècle Paris. She is also editor-in-chief of Fashion Theory: The Journal of Dress\, Body & Culture. Dr. Steele has authored numerous books\, including Paris Fashion; Fifty Years of Fashion: New Look to Now; Fetish: Fashion\, Sex and Power; Women of Fashion: 20th-Century Designers; andShoe Obsession. She also served as editor-in-chief of the three-volume Encyclopedia of Clothing and Fashion. Dr. Steele lectures frequently and has appeared on many television programs\, including The Oprah Winfrey Show and Undressed: The Story of Fashion.
