DESCRIPTION:To focus on the Society’s outstanding Costume & Textile Collection and its current Chisholm Halle Costume Wing exhibit\, Dior & More – For the Love of Fashion\, WRHS is pleased to host two special fashion-related events – one on Friday\, October 4 and the other on Saturday\, October 5\, 2013. The featured speaker for these two days is Valerie Steele (Ph.D.\, Yale University)\, Director & Chief Curator of The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology (MFIT) in New York City. \nOn Friday evening\, there will be a cocktail party followed by Dr. Steele’s lecture on “Fetish: Fashion\, Sex and Power.” \nDr. Steele has curated more than 20 exhibitions in the past ten years\, including Gothic: Dark Glamour; Love & War: The Weaponized Woman; The Corset: Fashioning the Body; London Fashion; and Femme Fatale: Fashion in Fin-de-Siècle Paris. She is also editor-in-chief of Fashion Theory: The Journal of Dress\, Body & Culture. Dr. Steele has authored numerous books\, including Paris Fashion; Fifty Years of Fashion: New Look to Now; Fetish: Fashion\, Sex and Power; Women of Fashion: 20th-Century Designers; andShoe Obsession. She also served as editor-in-chief of the three-volume Encyclopedia of Clothing and Fashion. Dr. Steele lectures frequently and has appeared on many television programs\, including The Oprah Winfrey Show and Undressed: The Story of Fashion.
